It’s about the same time in the world when every one is reminded of the Polio scourge.
This happened on on 21 st October but was spread out the whole Month of October and part of early November .
We all know that Polio performed a big painful role in our societies in the early 70s and 80s . Upon this, Rotary International came up with a planned program to eradicate out Polio out of the world and hence commemorating the Polio day on every 21st day of October every year .
Rotary Club of Gayaza stepped out and visited the Community of Kimwanyi which is located in the Gayaza Catchment Slum areas . The club was Compelled to take up the mantel and visited the community with medical officers with a purpose of immunising children against Polio ,giving them dewormers and vitamin Boosters .This was done widely in that area where many children were Immunised .
The Club also discovered that in the same area there were some children who were 3 years of age but had never received any Immunisation at all ,this was quite appalling and was attributed to carelessness of the parents and lack of knowledge .
The Club also visited Grade B Hospital in Kasangati and was also shocked to find it in a very sorry state . Patients shared Beds and the beds were also in a very embarrassing poor state . The Club also identified areas of improvement including Installation of a Shelter on the walk way to help improve a safe movement of the patients from the Theatre to the Wards .
The Polio Immunisation day was very successful as the Club reached out to over 100 children in the catchment of Gayaza Kimwanyi Zone .
