ACCEPTANCE SPEECH FROM ENG. IVAN WATTA – CHARTER PRESIDENT
I welcome you all to our Charter Celebrations! In a special way allow me to welcome my family led by Jennifer Watta and the children, as well as my special guests.
Congratulations to my fellow Charter members of Rotary Club of Gayaza. As I stand here before you tonight, I am indeed honored to be given the opportunity to serve in this capacity. Thank you for electing me in this highest position as a Charter President of this club. I promise to continue being dedicated to the cause of Rotary in this role, the same way I have demonstrated my commitment over the past few years since I was inducted into the club.
The journey here has been a long one since June 6, 2021, but as I stand before you today, it all seems very worthwhile! Over the past six months there has been dozens of board meetings, fellowships and trainings from the Rotary Leadership Institute faculty members.
On behalf of Rotary Club of Gayaza I thank our mother clubs Kasangati and Kisaasi-Kyanja for mentoring us very well. Special thanks to the facilitators who joined us virtually to share their Rotary knowledge in particular:
- PDG Robert Waggwa-Nsibirwa,
- PDG Kenneth Mugisha,

- PAG Sophie Bamwoyeraki,
- AG Madinah Friday,

- CMP Paul Nampala,
- Rtn Mariam Wegoye,
- PP Racheal Lubowa,
- PP Sarah Rubanga,
- Mr. Saul Sseremba and
- Mr. Solomon Serwanja.
In summary, our primary focus for the remaining half of the Change Maker year will include:
- Work on the Club Strategic Plan for the next three years
- Inspire the club members to enroll for the Rotary Leadership Institute
- Inspire the club members to take on the e-learning courses in My Rotary
- Carryout a Needs Assessment at TENAP Medical services in Mawule for our activities in Disease Prevention and Treatment
- Carry out small projects but impactful in the community
To my fellow leaders in Rotary Club of Gayaza, we are all called to be active in service, and I encourage each one of you to seek out your own role and way to get involved, and then pursue it with passion and enthusiasm – we rely on that to keep the club vibrant and active in our community. In particular, I encourage you to take advantage of training that is provided and yes we pay for a lot of it! It’s a great way to add to your leadership skills and networks; and by knowing more about Rotary, you will find new ideas and will keep our club renewed and on the leading edge of the district.
I want to quote President Huanq, he said: “it is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness”…..so let us start
lighting those candles; lets shine our light brightly around our community and keep making a difference; let’s bring out the star quality in each one of us and make our club to always be remembered!
Thank you
