It all started in a monthly meeting of a group of ladies called Ladies of destiny. A former Rotaractor by the name of Kevin
Namata Mulumba came up with an idea to start a Rotary club in the area. Members seconded the idea but tasked her to find out from her former Rotaractors who transitioned to Rotary what it takes to become a Rotary Club. Kevin a former member of RAC Core contacted a friend and a former Rotaractor Rtn. Maureen Yerindabo, a member of Rotary Club Kisaasi Kyanja Kampala.
Rtn. Maureen talked to her club mate AG Madinah Friday who contacted Kevin and they discussed the modalities of starting a new club. Kevin had also contacted Rtn Ivan Watta of the Rotary Club of Kasangati who referred her to Rtn Julie Kamuzze Musoke. So PAG Julie and AG Madinah decided to join hands and mentor the new Club of Gayaza as a collaboration between RC Kasangati and RC Kisaasi Kyanja.
Prospective members were encouraged to mobilise more members to form a Rotary club. A Whatsapp Group was created and a link shared for interested members to join the forum of the Rotary Club in Formation. The members embraced the idea, invited more people, shared the forum link to the different forums they subscribe, in particular we had forums of Canaansites residents, Greenhill Academy, Gayaza Catholic Parish and St Stephen Kasangati CoU.
As they joined brainstorming started on the date and time of the first physical meeting of the prospective Rotarians. The first meeting took place on Sunday, June 6, 2021 with a total number of 8 people in attendance. Within two weeks the Club In Formation had enrolled over 70 prospective members of which 5 were part of the Rotary Fraternity. These were:
- Rtn. Ivan Watta—RC Kasangati
- Ms. Keyvin Mulumba—Former Rotaractor
- Mr. John Rutaaro—Former Rotarian
- Ms. Phionah Atuhaire— Former Rotarian.
